The method involves measuring an average moment, which is differentiated and is supported by an internal combustion engine. A result of the differentiation is assigned individually to individual cylinders (z) of the internal combustion engine. A moment step of a cylinder is determined, while the result of the differentiation is compared with a temporary older value corresponding for cylinder.
