<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide tourist information radio equipment, which does not consum a battery even when a user forgets to turn off a switch. <P>SOLUTION: A radio transmitter is turned on to enter a standby state from a stop state. The radio transmitter enters an operation state when detecting speech input in the standby state, to perform transmission. The radio transmitter enters the standby state when there is no speech input for a certain time in the operation state. The radio transmitter enters a stop state when there is no speech input for a long time in the standby state. A radio receiver in a stop state is turned on to enter a standby state. In the standby state, the radio receiver checks a carrier of a predetermined channel at fixed intervals of time. The radio receiver enters an operation state when receiving the carrier to output a received speech. The radio receiver enters the standby state when receiving no carrier in the operation state for a certain time.
