PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform course guide by a three-dimensional animation picture with small memory consumption. SOLUTION: As shown in Fig. 1, data read regions 22a to 22d of rectangle shapes along the course are set in accordance with the shape of the course 2 near a guide junction (not shown in Fig.). The rectangles are set by setting two points on the course 2 and forming the rectangle having a segment connecting the two points as a central line. The navigation device judges whether or not the structure constituting three-dimensional map data 22 within a read region and reads a data read region based on the course. In this way, the data read region is set based on the course 2 and the structure out of the data read region is not read so that the navigation device can reduce the used memory size without omitting the data necessary for the guide.
