<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide light which is uniform as a whole and has high luminance, and to provide a backlight unit of a liquid crystal display capable of enhancing appearance quality of the liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight unit 130 of the liquid crystal display includes a light source 132a, a light guide member 131 on which light emitted by the light source 132a is made incident and a prism sheet 134 providing light emitted by the light guide member 131 to a liquid crystal display panel 100. A plurality of first V-shaped grooves 136 arranged to be nearly parallel to a first direction are formed in a first surface of the light guide member 131 which constitutes the backlight unit 130 and a plurality of second V-shaped grooves 137 arranged to be nearly parallel to a second direction are formed in a second surface of the light guide member 131.
