PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable sure ignition and combustion of a lump of combustible air fuel mixture by two spark plugs during stratified combustion. SOLUTION: This engine is provided with a fuel injection valve 1 arranged at a roughly center of a cylinder upper part, a first spark plug and a second spark plug 3 arranged at the cylinder upper part. The fuel injection valve injects fuel F in a hollow cone shape. A first ignition gap of the first spark plug and a second ignition gap of the second spark plug are positioned at neighborhoods of outsides of hollow cone shape trajectories of fuel injection respectively. Distance (a) from the first ignition gap to an injection hole of the fuel injection valve is shorter than distance (b) from the second ignition gap to an injection hole of the fuel injection valve. Fuel is injected in compression stroke by a fuel injection valve and a lump of combustible air fuel mixture formed by injected fuel is ignited and burned by the first spark plug and the second spark plug during stratified combustion.
