The method involves guiding air to be cleaned between electrically charged plates that are arranged parallel to one another. The particles located in the air are deposited on the plates, and an electrical sparkover is produced between the plates and/or at isolators after the deposition of the larger particle amounts on the plates. The high voltage of an electrical air filter device is navigated after the production of the sparkover as long as the number of sparkovers is reduced or the sparkover is ended. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for controlling a high voltage of an electrical air filter device.
