<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical substrate and a manufacturing method thereof capable of suppressing a manufacturing cost low while enhancing manufacturing efficiency of the optical substrate with respect to the method of manufacturing the optical substrate in which a linear core is disposed in a substrate main body having a refractive index lower than that of the core. <P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the optical substrate includes: an optical waveguide formation step of arranging a linear core 5 in a substrate body 3 having a refractive index lower than that of the core 5 and protruding ends 5a, 5b in the longitudinal direction of the core 5 from the substrate body 3 to the outside; and an end surface molding process of heating and melting end surfaces 5c, 5d of the core 5 protruded from the substrate body 3 with heating means 33, 35 and molding the end surfaces 5c, 5d into an arbitrary shape. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
