<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element with which it is possible to display by different systems on the same display substrate. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of diffraction gratings 703,704 of different diffraction systems are each formed in a different area on the same liquid crystal display panel 7.
