PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device allowing a fluorescent tube causing luminance degradation to be identified by uniformly measuring luminance values of a plurality of fluorescent tubes; and a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: This backlight device includes the plurality of fluorescent tubes 13a-13e, and a rear chassis 11 housing the fluorescent tubes 13a-13e.
