PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for detecting an eye position capable of detecting a driver's eye position from angle information of an inner mirror loaded for backward confirmation of a vehicle without using image processing, and estimating a real-time driver's state. SOLUTION: The device has the inner mirror for confirming backwardness of the vehicle by the driver; a photographing device arranged with a prescribed position relation with the inner mirror, for photographing the driver; an inner mirror rotation mechanism for supporting rotatably the inner mirror and the photographing device around at least two rotating shafts; a rotation angle detection device for detecting a rotation angle of the rotating shaft of the inner mirror rotation mechanism; and a position operation device for calculating the driver's eye position on an image photographed by the photographing device based on each rotation angle of the rotating shafts detected by the rotation angle detection device.
