Condensates containing recurring -CONH-groups are made by condensing one or more epoxidized unsaturated fatty acids or esters thereof with alcohols boiling at temperatures of not more than 200 DEG C. by heating with one or more aliphatic diamines or triamines. In a modification of the process, the epoxidized acid or ester is condensed with a dicarboxylic acid and then with the polyamine. Specified amines are ethylene diamine and diethylene triamine. Specified dicarboxylic acids are succinic, glutaric, adipic, azelaic, sebacic, isosebacic and phthalic acids. The products of the process of the invention are suitable for use as epoxy-resin hardeners. In the examples, diethylene triamine is condensed with: (1) epoxidized linseed oil fatty acid, (2) epoxidized soya oil fatty acid, (3) to (7) inclusive, epoxidized soya oil fatty acid methyl ester, (8), (9) and (10) epoxidized linseed oil fatty acid methyl ester, (12) and (15) the reaction product of epoxidized soya oil fatty acid and adipic acid, (13) the reaction product of epoxidized soya oil fatty acid methyl ester and sebacic acid, (14) the reaction product of epoxidized linseed oil fatty acid methyl ester and adipic acid, the products being (1) and (12) dissolved in a toluene-isopropanol mixture, (5) to (10) inclusive, mixed with an epoxy resin and dissolved in an isobutanol-toluene mixture preferably containing ethylene glycol or cyclohexanone, the resultant lacquer being hardened by exposure to air, whilst in Example (11), the product of Example (1) is mixed with an epoxy resin made from a phenol novolak, epichlorhydrin and phenyl glycide ether and reacted therewith.
