An air conditioner is provided to clean a filter by the use of a filter cleaning device separating foreign materials piled up in the filter and discharging the separated foreign materials to the outside. A ceiling type air conditioner includes a body(10) installed in a ceiling through an opening prepared in the ceiling, and a ceiling panel(11) forming a lower surface of the body by covering the opening of the body. A blower fan(13) generating suction and blowing force while rotating by a fan driving motor, and an indoor heat exchanger(14) cooling or heating the air discharged from the blower fan are installed inside the body. An inlet(11a) for sucking air is formed in the center of the ceiling panel. An outlet(11b) is formed in an outline of the ceiling panel. A filter(15) for filtering foreign materials from the air sucked through the inlet is disposed at the inside of the inlet.
