<p>A method and circuit for audio output muting so as to avoid disturbing signal noise which is produced when an audio source has a low signal output level. The circuit, which is for use with a sound reproduction system, comprises a noise / signal detector (14) which is in communication with the output of an audio processor (11). The noise / signal detector (14) is adapted to monitor the voltage level of the audio processor output (17) and to issue a mute signal (15) to an audio amplifier (12) whenever the voltage level of the audio processor output (17) falls below a predetermined threshold. The circuit for audio output muting can be used in any device having a sound processing function including, but not limited to, a sound processor, an audio amplifier and speaker units. It is particularly suited for use with TV receivers and computer monitors, but not exclusively so.</p> |
