PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent error-determination on whether temperature conditions are satisfied or not, even if a fuel temperature detector is disposed on or in the vicinity of a fuel pump. SOLUTION: In this diagnostic method for an evaporation fuel treatment device, including a processing procedure to calculate a rise from a fuel temperature at engine-start to that at engine-stop, based on fuel-temperature detection values detected in a lower part of liquid fuel in a fuel tank by a fuel temperature detector 23, and a processing procedure to start diagnosing the presence of a leak with a purge control valve 11, a drain cutout valve 12, and a pressure detector 13, after the engine-stop, if the calculated fuel temperature rise exceeds a first criterial value, an engine controller 21 includes a processing procedure to agitate a fuel in the fuel tank by a fuel pump 15 activated by the engine-start and to set, as the fuel temperature at engine-start, the fuel temperature detection value of the whole liquid fuel in the fuel tank detected when the fuel temperature becomes rather constant.
