PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide area vessel behavior monitoring method and system, centrally monitoring, in a wide area such as an overall specific water area in a bay area or coastal area, vessel behaviors, reproducing vessel behaviors later and acquiring an accurate number of vessels and wakes thereof in a part where receiving ranges of receiving stations are overlapped by use of data received from vessel automatic identification system (AIS). SOLUTION: This system comprises an antenna 1a for receiving AIS information transmitted from a vessel mounted with AIS, a plurality of AIS receiving station devices 1 delivering AIS received data through an electric communication line 3, and an AIS server 2 connected with the communication line 3. The AIS server 2 includes an AIS database 21 storing AIS received data delivered from each AIS receiving station device 1, and a retrieval means for retrieving the AIS database 12 upon receipt of a monitoring request for a predetermined vesselα.
