<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectrochemical energy conversion system, especially a photoelectrochemical water decomposition system, for steady photoelectric conversion. <P>SOLUTION: The photoelectrochemical energy conversion system comprises a photoelectric conversion element (1) having a visible light response showing both optical cathode current characteristics and optical anode current characteristics, bias power sources (3 and 9), and counter electrodes (2 and 8) connected to the photoelectric conversion element through the bias power source. It includes a means (a) for promoting a reducing reaction on the surface of the counter electrode (2) by applying a bias from the bias power source (3) to let an anode current flow under such condition as light is irradiated to the photoelectric conversion element (1), a means (b) for promoting oxidizing reaction on the surface of the counter electrode (8) by applying a bias from the bias power source (9) to let a cathode current flow under such condition as light is irradiated to the photoelectric conversion element (1), and a means (c) for alternately inverting the applied bias direction for switching the means (a) and (b). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
