PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved latch needle for a loop-forming machine. SOLUTION: The latch needle 1 has a latch head 9 at a latch 7. A recessed part, i.e. a dent 12, for receiving a part of the tip part of a hook 4 is formed at the latch head 9. The tip part of the hook 4 has a truncated cone shape. The width of the latch head 9 is larger than the width of a latch shaft 8 of the latch 7 but much smaller than the width of a needle shaft 20. By the means, a loop is prevented from becoming too wider at closing process, and the risk of the latch head colliding with other constituent elements, e.g. a sinker is reduced.
