<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for production of chemical intermediates in the synthesis of HIV-protease inhibitors relating to and including nelfinavir mesylate. <P>SOLUTION: The method of the present invention comprises converting tetrahydrofuran derivatives into oxazolines, to thereby provide key reaction intermediates for production of nelfinavir.
