PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a raw material for a cosmetic, effectively preventing a peculiar smell of collagen in the raw material, excellent in preservation stability, and on blending with a cosmetic, reducing skin irritation and excellent in dissolvability, and a cosmetic containing the same. SOLUTION: This raw material of the cosmetic is provided by containing at least 1 kind selected from a group consisting of collagen, a collagen derivative, a hydrolyzed collagen and a derivative of collagen hydrolyzate, and 1,2-octane diol.
