PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tire air pressure monitoring system capable of determining whether tire air pressure is proper or not in accordance with a variation in the number of occupants or luggage weight in a vehicle. SOLUTION: The tire air pressure monitoring system is provided with transmitters 20 to transmit detection values from tire air pressure sensors installed at respective tires of the vehicle, a receiver 23 to receive the tire air pressure detection values from the transmitters 20, an occupant detection means to detect whether or not there is an occupant in the vehicle, and a determination means 25 which receives tire air pressure detection signals from the receiver 23, and detection signals from the occupant detection means, corrects a preliminarily stored tire air pressure threshold by a correction value based on the occupant detection to be compared with the tire air pressure detection values, or compares the stored tire air pressure threshold with the tire air pressure detection values corrected by a correction value based on the occupant detection, and determines whether or not the tire air pressure is proper.
