CUTTING EDGE CHANGING TYPE CUTTING TIP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting edge changing type cutting tip using alumina as a coating layer and especially suitable for cutting of a Ti alloy. SOLUTION: This cutting tip has a substrate and the coating layer formed in at least a part on the substrate. The substrate has a cutting edge ridge line, a flank and a rake face. The coating layer includes a first layer mainly including alumina having aαtype crystal structure and a second layer mainly including alumina except the alumina having theαtype crystal structure. Either one of the first layer or the second layer is formed in a continuous state in a region connected to the rake face across the cutting edge ridge line from the flank. The first layer becomes a top layer in at least a part of the flank. The second layer becomes a top layer in at least a part of the rake face. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
