The method involves capturing the static voltage of a component as signal (2) before the starting process or turning-off process. The starting turning-off current or the working current or the on-board voltage in certain times is captured as signal with the vehicle start. The voltage is captured before or after component-starting or turning-off points or at trigger points (3). The fault indicator is a measure for the current voltage path. The fault indicator predicts a future malfunction of the components in the case of increasing deviation of the signal from the identification signal (1).
