An electronic device for providing a 3D(Dimensional) GUI(Graphic User Interface) and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to manipulate a menu efficiently and offer menu manipulation customized to propensity of the user by providing the 3D GUI in which a plurality of layers are independently moved. A GUI part(120) includes a device layer representing device information with at least one side of a first polygonal column and a contents layer representing contents information with at least one side of a second polygonal column. A controller(130) controls a GUI generation operation of the GUI part. The contents layer represents a kind of at least one of photo, movie, MP3(MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) layer), and text contents. The device layer represents a storage medium storing at least one of the photo, movie, MP3, and text contents. A task layer represents task information with at least one side of a third polygonal column. The task layer includes at least one contents tasking function of performing a slide show, burning a CD(Compact Disk), and making a new folder.
