<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital information receiving apparatus which receives efficiently transmitted bit-compressed video information and audio information and also performs error correction, even on errors that occur during transmission and can restore video information and audio information. <P>SOLUTION: A transmission signal for which a video signal is bit-compressed by discrete cosine transformation and is subjected to quadrature phase shift keying, is received, the received signal is quadrature-phase-demodulated, the error that occurs during transmission, is corrected using an error-correcting code, the bit-compressed video signal is extended using inverse discrete cosine transformation, audio signal is also bit-extended, and the video signal and the audio signal are output.
