A method and a device for applying an adhesive to an elastic string-like material capable of performing continuous application operation without stopping the application operation by automatically jumping the knot of the elastic string-like material form a running line for the material at a slit groove in a coater applying head. The knot of the elastic string-like material running on the coater applying head is raised from the original running line so that it can pass while avoiding the slit groove. After the knot avoids the slit groove, it is returned to the Original running line and runs continuously. The device comprises a detection means for the knot of elastic string-like material in running and jump guide means for passing the knot while avoiding the slit groove in the coater applying head.
