929,872. Cotters. AVDEL Ltd. Aug. 10, 1959 [Aug. 8, 1958], No. 25629/58. Class 89 (2). A cotter-pin comprises a headed tube 1, Fig. 1, with one or more balls 9 movable in radial holes by a member 6 slidable axially in the tube, friction means being provided between member and tube to restrain relative movement. The means consists of an annular spring-ring 11 mounted between flanges 10 on the member, and expanding into a groove 12 in the outer position of the balls. In a modification, the spring 11 has one end shaped to engage axial grooves 17 in the wall of tube head 2 and the other end has tongues engaging slots in flanges 10. The head 7 of member 6 has flats 16, Fig. 4, and an annular groove 15, Fig. 5, and is movable through a correspondingly shaped hole in cap 19 when aligned therewith. After pushing head 7 into head 2 to move the balls outwardly, head 7 is then turned through 90 degrees to lock the spring-end locating in its appropriate groove 17. |
