An NMS(Network Management System) for displaying information of an unequipped slot and a method thereof are provided to enable a network manager to manage the network conveniently/stably by storing the unequipped slot information of a plurality of NEs(Network Element) to an MIB(Management Information Database), and output the stored unequipped slot information and contents of an event when the event for the unequipped slot is generated. An MIB stores the information of the unequipped slots of the NEs. An MFss(Message Function subsystem) outputs the unequipped slot information stored in the MIB and the contents of the event when the event for the unequipped slot is generated. A type of the unequipped slot is set and stored as blank. The MFss updates the information of an equipped unit to the MIB when an event message, which is generated when the unit is equipped to the unequipped slot, is received. The slot information stored in the database is at least one of an ID, an alias, and the type of each NE.
