<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method by which the directions of visual lines can be detected accurately. <P>SOLUTION: An image corresponding point searching section 21 detects the characteristic part of the white portion of an eye from an image picked up by means of a stereo camera 1 and a three-dimensional coordinate calculating section 22 calculates the three-dimensional coordinates of the characteristic part. Then an eyeball center calculating section 23 calculates the center of the eyeball of the eye based on the calculated three-dimensional coordinates. On the other hand, the three-dimensional coordinate calculating section 22 detects the three-dimensional coordinates of the iris of the eye and estimates the center of the iris based on the detected three-dimensional coordinates. Thereafter, the calculating section 22 measures the direction of the visual line of the eye from the centers of the eyeball and iris. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
