Method and device for the surveillance of optical connection paths for a transparent optical network

The method involves detecting signatures of transit points carried by an optical wavelength division multiplexing signal transiting in a switching node (90) e.g. optical cross-connect, at successive instants. An abnormal state affecting the signal is searched by detecting a variation of signatures of the detected points. A sub-set of wavelengths of the signal is separated, and a connection fault affecting the sub-set is searched, in response to the detection of the abnormal state. An independent claim is also included for a device for monitoring optical connection paths, for a transparent optical network.
