A JPEG(Joint Photographic Experts Group) image processing method, an image processing apparatus, and a recording medium in which a program for embodying the same is recorded are provided to reduce time and memory capacity required when editing a still picture compressed by a JPEG type in a portable terminal whose resources are limited. The first JPEG image file including the first header and the first data into which one restart marker is inserted per one MCU(Minimum Coded Unit) is generated(1210). A certain region is selected in the first JPEG image(1220). Image size information of the certain region and the second header are generated(1230). The second data including image data corresponding to the certain region are added to the second header, and the second JPEG image file corresponding to the certain region is generated(1230).
