A method for operating a plasma display panel is provided to reduce gradually a rate of current change by forming a pre-address period between a reset period and an address period. A plasma display panel includes a plurality of pixels. Each of the pixels includes a plurality of first electrode lines, a plurality of second electrode lines, and a plurality of third electrodes crossing the first and second electrode lines. The plasma display panel performing a driving operation by dividing a unit frame into a plurality of sub-fields including a reset period, an address period, and a sustain discharge period. A pre-address period is formed between the reset period and the address period. In the pre-address period, a pre-address signal is applied to a part of the third electrode lines. The pre-address signal is applied to the remaining part of the third electrode lines.
