<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon material exhibiting high thermal conductivity in spite of low density and a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The carbon material has ≥1.65 Mg/m<SP>3</SP>bulk density, 180 W/(m×k) average coefficient of thermal conductivity in the X, Y and Z axial direction and exhibits V<SB>1</SB>≥2V<SB>2</SB>when cumulative pore volume in ≥0.01 μm and ≤1.0 μm pore radius defined by pore diameter distribution measurement using mercury is expressed by V<SB>1</SB>and cumulative pore volume in pore radius larger than 1.0 μm pore radius is expressed by V<SB>2</SB>. The specific resistance of the carbon material is preferably ≤8 μΩ×m. The carbon material is manufactured by the manufacturing method having a step of kneading aggregate and a binder, pulverizing the kneaded product to obtain forming powder, externally adding ≥1.0 pts. and ≤20 pts. carbonized material into the forming powder and mixing them, forming the mixture and heat-treating the formed body at a temperature equal to or above a prescribed temperature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
