PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily convert subtitle information on subtitles, superimposed characters, etc., into a translucent state. SOLUTION: A subtitle decoder 190 analyzes subtitle information from a TS decoder 120 by a code analyzing section 191a to separately output control information and character information. A control information analyzing and extracting section 191b analyzes character positions and the control information such as color information in the subtitle information and outputs the color information to a subtitle color converting section 192. Based upon a command from a user in a subtitle translucence converting function selection menu 700, the subtitle color converting section 192 converts an opaque color as the color information of the subtitle information to a translucent color by referring to a translucent color conversion table memory 193 when translucence is designated, and outputs the resulting information to a subtitle information display control section 194. The subtitle information control section 194 outputs character codes etc., in the subtitle information analyzed by the character information analyzing section 191c so that they are displayed in the designated original color or translucent color from the subtitle color converting section 192.
