摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cut down retardation layers on the rear surface side for instance of a semitransmission type liquid crystal display device.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates 2 and 6 and a liquid crystal layer 10 interposed between the substrates and has a reflective area 3 and a transmissive area 4. At least one of the substrates is provided with the retardation layers 7 and 55 whose slow axes differing between the reflective area 3 and the transmissive area 4.
