The utility model relates to surgery and may be used for arresting the bleeding from the esophagus, for example the bleeding from the varicose veins of the esophagus in the patients with the portal hypertension, in ulcers, erosions and ulcerated tumors of the esophagus. The improved process for arresting the bleeding from esophagus has been proposed. The process comprises the additional tamponade of the bleeding area of the esophagus using the hemostatic sponge of the cylindrical shape with the central longitudinal canal. The hemostatic sponge is inserted to the esophagus through the gastrotomic wound with the aid of the probe.
