PLASMA PANEL BASED IONIZING-PHOTON RADIATION DETECTOR

A plasma panel based ionizing-photon radiation detector includes an input (70) and output (72) substrate with gamma-ray to free electron conversion occurring primarily on the input substrate (70) and a sealed discharge gas between the substrates (70, 72). X- electrodes (76), Y-electrodes (80), and secondary emitter source electrode (82) are formed on the two substrates (70, 72) and configured to form a plurality of pixels. Impedances are coupled to the X (76) and Y (80) electrodes and a power supply is coupled to the secondary emitter source electrode (82). Discharge event detectors coupled to the impedances detect discharge events at pixel locations, which leads to the detection of ionizing-photon radiation.
