<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing dimethyl ether (DME) while reducing the amount of methane to be produced as a by-product. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for producing DME contains a metallic element (A), a copper element and aluminum oxide so that the total amount of the content (C<SB>A</SB>) of the metallic element (A) and that (C<SB>Cu</SB>) of the copper element is within 5-60 mass%, the content of the aluminum oxide is within 40-95 mass% and the mass ratio (C<SB>A</SB>/C<SB>Cu</SB>) of the content (C<SB>A</SB>) of the metallic element (A) to that (C<SB>Cu</SB>) of the copper element is >1.5 and ordinarily ≤7. A supported catalyst obtained by depositing this catalyst on a base material such as activated alumina and a thermally-conductive base material can be used. DME is produced by reacting carbon oxides with hydrogen in the presence of this catalyst. One or more metallic elements selected from the group consisting of zinc, manganese and iron are used as the metallic element (A). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
