An image processing method decides a first bandwidth from an image size of original image data, calculates a filter coefficient arrangement for realizing frequency characteristic when a band is limited so as to subject the original image data to filter processing, generates first filter image data, derives an objective image quality evaluation value of the image data, calculates a distribution coefficient used for deciding the optimal bandwidth according to it, decides an optimal bandwidth corresponding to the distribution coefficient by referencing a table for setting correspondence between the distribution coefficient and the optimal bandwidth so as to calculate a filter coefficient arrangement for realizing frequency characteristic when the band is limited, subjects the original image data to filter processing, and generates optimal filter image data.
