摘要 An LCD is provided to effectively perform the splay-band transition by generating a transition kernel through an electric field concentration. A pair of substrates face to each other. A liquid crystal layer(4) is disposed between the pair of substrates. An alignment state of a display state is different from an alignment of a non-display state in the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer is initialized from the alignment state of the non-display state into the alignment state of the display state before displaying an image. One of the substrates is an array substrate(103) that includes a plurality of pixel electrodes(6), a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of source lines, and a plurality of switching devices. The pixel electrodes are disposed in a matrix form. The gate lines and the source lines are arranged so as to intersect each other. The switching devices are disposed so as to correspond to the pixel electrodes, respectively. The switching devices convert conduction/non-conduction between the pixel electrodes and the source lines in response to a driving signal supplied through the gate lines. The other of the substrates is a counter substrate facing the array substrate. A source electrode forming the switching device extends from the source line in a direction parallel to the gate lines so as to overlap the gate lines. The source electrode is disposed between the gate line and the liquid crystal layer with an insulator interposed therebetween. A driving signal for conducting the pixel electrode with the source line is supplied to the gate line such that the source electrode and the pixel electrode have the same potential and the potential difference between the source line and the gate line.
