A tub lifting device for a washing machine in which hydraulic cylinders are installed on lower front and rear sides of the tub to move the tub up and down is provided to allow a user to load or unload the laundries without stooping down. A device for lifting a tub(22) has an outer door(50), an inner door(30) hinged on a front loading side of the tub, ring shaped elastic sealing members(40) installed on edges of the tub making contact with the inner door, and an operation unit(70) which lifts the tub. The operation unit has first and second operation states. In the first operation state, the operation unit lifts the tub, positioning the inner door at the same elevation as the outer door. In the second operation state, the operation unit lowers the tub to a predetermined position. The operation unit has a supply unit(74) supplying hydraulic pressure, lifting cylinders(72) moving the tub up and down by receiving the hydraulic pressure, and a control unit(76) transmitting a control signal to the supply unit to regulate the lifting of the tub. The lifting cylinders are installed on lower front and rear sides of the tub respectively. |
