The method involves interrupting a supply voltage (V) for an area of a volatile RAM (1) e.g. static RAM, during a time period (T). Information (I2) is read from the area of the RAM. An extent is checked whether preset information (I1) and the information which has been read have a preset relationship. An alarm action is initiated if the preset relationship is not satisfied. The alarm action is initiated if the duration of the time period is outside a preset range. A check is carried out to determine whether a Hamming distance is within the preset range. An independent claim is also included for a circuit arrangement for operating a volatile RAM as a detector.
