<p>A method for detecting refrigerant leakage in a separated type air conditioner is provided to detect refrigerant leakage in normal operation as well as starting operation to prevent damage of a compressor due to refrigerant leakage. An indoor temperature and an outdoor temperature are detected, confirming a set temperature to calculate an EEV(Electronic Expansion Valve) opening amount. A real EEV opening amount is detected. A difference between the detected real EEV opening amount and the calculated EEV opening amount is compared with an allowable error. If the difference value is lower than the allowable error, an operation appropriateness signal is outputted to perform normal operation. If the difference value exceeds the allowable error, excess frequency is remembered and the excess frequency is compared with a set limited frequency. If the excess frequency is smaller than the limited frequency, the EEV is opened completely and an operation appropriateness signal is outputted in a state of controlling to open the EEV at the calculated EEV opening amount to perform normal operation. If the excess frequency is larger than the limited frequency, an operation inappropriateness signal due to refrigerant leakage is outputted to stop operation.</p> |
