The method involves monitoring voltage on an electrical circuit (1) with a holding circuit, which is connected with the electrical circuit by a connection. The holding circuit switches over from a meta-stable condition into a stable condition at holding time during applying voltage on the electrical circuit. Condition of the holding circuit is monitored by a control circuit, which is provided with current. The control circuit switches from a resting condition into an operating condition after the starting time. An independent claim is also included for a protective circuit for protecting an electrical circuit during electrostatic discharging.
