The device (10) has a discoidal rotary piston (12) with rotary piston surfaces eccentrically rotating within a chamber (20) around a shaft (14). The piston with the chamber, which surrounds the piston, forms an expansion chamber part (24) and a compressor chamber part (26). The expansion and compressor chamber parts are provided with exhaust gas inlet and outlet (30, 32) and air inlet and outlet (34, 36), respectively. The exhaust gas inlet and outlet lie opposite to each other in relation to the expansion chamber.
