An apparatus and a method for searching for a channel in a digital broadcasting receiver are provided to solve a problem of a related art that a user has to search for all channels personally. At least two digital tuner parts(111,112) tune a digital broadcasting frequency, which is received from an antenna, into an intermediate frequency or a base band. At least two digital demodulators(121,122) convert the intermediate frequency or a base band frequency from the digital tuner part into a transport stream having a digital broadcasting scheme. An MPEG decoder and a controller(13) decode the transport stream into an MPEG video/audio, and specify a channel search range when searching for a broadcasting channel. The MPEG decoder and the controller(13) allocate the specified search frequencies to the two digital tuner parts so that the digital tuner parts search for the search frequencies. The MPEG decoder and the controller(13) allocate a frequency band, which is allocated to one of the digital tuner parts and not detected, to the other, which has performed the detection operation with respect to the allocated frequency, thereby performing channel detection continuously.
