Equipment (1) for positioning a support member (2) comprises a piston (4) attached to the support member (2) and able of moving between two end-of-stroke positions along one direction (X-X) and a cursor (5) which can move along that direction (X-X) and is provided with an abutment member (6). The piston (4) is provided with a stop member (7) which can abut against the abutment member (6) of the cursor (5). Equipment (1) also comprises operating means (8) to move the cursor (5) along the direction (X-X) and to stop the cursor (5) in a position such as to allow the piston (4) to stop in a corresponding position lying between the two opposed end-of-stroke positions when the stop member (7) of the piston (4) abuts against the abutment member (6) of the cursor (5).
