A torque converter for a vehicle is provided to improve an operation safety by protecting a spring from being repeatedly contacted between a drive plate and a retaining plate. An impeller is integrated with a front cover. A turbine is arranged to be opposed to the impeller. A reactor is arranged between the impeller and the turbine and changes an oil flow from the turbine to the impeller. A lock up clutch directly couples the front cover with the turbine. A torsional damper is coupled with the lock up clutch. The torsional damper includes a driven plate(41), a retaining plate(43), and a drive plate(45). The driven plate is coupled with the turbine. The retaining plate is coupled with the driven plate. The drive plate is arranged between the driven plate and the retaining plate and includes a first stopper(45b) for restricting a rotational movement due to the driven and retaining plates. The drive plate includes a second stopper(45c) to restrict the rotational movement due to the retaining plate.
