<p>The purpose of the surge protection device according to the invention is its integration into electronic devices, household appliances and various instruments, where it is reasonable to expect that they will be subject to overvoltage. The invention solves the problem of safe varistor operation, which in general upon the occurrence of overvoltage due to overheating can lead to considerable damage within the appliance being protected, while it can also be the cause of fire and thus major damage around it. The main advantage of the surge protection device according to the invention is that there are two protective chambers within the system, more specifically an internal protection chamber of the thermal disconnector which is made from rugged plastics and an armoured protective chamber made of a layer of epoxy resin which the complete assembly of the device is covered with. The protective chamber of the thermal disconnector physically separates the parts under power and prevents the possibility of discharge following any explosion of the varistor vapour, which could result in a permanent contact between terminals of the thermal disconnector. The armoured protective chamber retains the increasing heat and thus reduces the reaction time by the thermal disconnector. The surge protection device is because of that more sensitive to network overvoltages and thus more effective. The advantage of the surge protection device according to the invention is also in the technology of its production since all soldered elements are soldered in a single step, while apart from that different soldering pastes can be applied. The technological process according to the invention provides that the thermal discharge can react quicker and in a more controlled manner since the temperature difference between the melting point of the soldering pastes is large enough therefore allowing for the necessary delay for the operation of the thermal discharge.</p> |
