PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte and a nonaqueous electrolyte battery capable of improving a discharge capacity maintenance rate in a charging/discharging cycle by selecting an additive suitable for a saturated chain carboxylic acid ester. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte contains at least one kind of saturated chain carboxylic acid ester expressed by the formula and at least one kind of unsaturated chain carboxylic acid ester. The discharge capacity maintenance rate in the charge/discharge cycle can be improved thereby. R1and R2in the formula are each hydrocarbon group having a carbon number of not less than one and not more than 3. Either R1or R2, or both of them can have an unsaturated bond.
