PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device reducing a problem generated by pressure shock when a counterweight and an elevator car pass each other, improving comfort at the time of transportation according to that, and preventing the generation of excessive mechanical or control complication on the other hand. SOLUTION: The elevator device 1 with an elevator shaft 10 and an elevator car 11 is connected to the counterweight 12 by a supporting means so as to move the counterweight 12 in an opposite direction and make the elevator car 11 pass by the counterweight 12 in a proximity region A of the elevator shaft 10, when the elevator car 11 moves. An enlargement E of a cross-section Q of the elevator shaft 10 is provided in the proximity region A so as to reduce a pressure shock generated in the proximity region A when the elevator car 11 moves past the counterweight 12.
